National Fragile X Advocacy Day took place February 28th – March 1st, 2017 in Washington D.C.!  Dr. Jane Roberts was proud to be able to attend this annual event along with many other influential interventionists who are fighting for the rights of the Fragile X Community!  Here, Dr. Roberts is pictured with Dejan Budimirovic M.D., medical co-director of the Fragile X Clinic at Kennedy Krieger Institute, as well as  Tracy Stackhouse, and Sarah (“Mouse”) Scharfenaker, the co-founders of Developmental FX in Denver Colorado. Parents, family members and self-advocates living with Fragile X are encouraged to participate in this annual event and make their voices heard!

Congratulations to Hannah Durham on her new position at Duke University!!

Hannah Durham graduated from USC this past May and is currently a research assistant in our lab. She has accepted a clinical research specialist position at the Center for Autism and Brain Development at Duke University Medical Center! She will be joining a team who is studying the efficacy of umbilical cord blood infusion for improving outcomes of children with autism spectrum disorder. Congratulations!!

It is our pleasure to announce that Dr. Abigail Hogan is the recipient of the Theodore Tjossem Postdoctoral Travel Award in the amount of $400.00 to attend the 50th Annual Gatlinburg Conference. This conference continues its tradition as one of the premier conferences in the United States for behavioral scientists conducting research in intellectual and related developmental disabilities. Dr. Hogan will be giving a talk on exciting new findings and attending both evening poster sessions on Wednesday, March 8th and Thursday, March 9th . Congratulations to Sara Matherly!!

A big congratulations to Sara Matherly who received $5,000 funding from the University of South Carolina through the SPARC Graduate Research Grant Program! Sara, a graduate student in the School Psychology Ph.D. program, will be attending a training on the Anxiety Disorders Interview Schedule and Autism Spectrum Addendum to capture distinct profiles of anxiety in autism spectrum disorders. This will help to better understand the impact of anxiety across multiple domains impacting young adult independence within cross-syndrome ASD.

The NDD Lab is celebrating a two important graduations this fall!  Carly Moser has successfully completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at USC and she will continue to work at our lab as an integral member of our assessment team!  Kelly Caravella is currently a Clinical-Community Ph.D. student who has just received her Masters of Arts degree this month!  She will continue her doctoral studies while working in our lab as a primary assessor.   Congratulations to both of them and we are lucky to have them here in the Neurodevelopmental Disorder Lab!

We are so proud to announce that Jessi Scherr and Marjorie Grefer have received their doctorates in School Psychology!  They have successfully completed their internship experiences are are excited to start their post-graduate careers.  Dr. Jessi Scherr has accepted a two -year postdoctoral research fellowship at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus Ohio specializing in clinical research of assessment and treatment practices of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other Neurodevelopmental Disabilities. Dr. Marjorie Grefer is a certified school psychologist in Lexington County School District One and she is completing postdoctoral hours for licensure in South Carolina. Congratulations!!

Dr. Abigail Hogan presented her poster on Neural Processing in Fragile X Syndrome and Autism to the CAS Board of Visitors on December 2, 2016. It was an honor to present the experimental design of our NIH-funded preschool grant to a governing body of the College of Arts and Sciences.
